Researchers from across Sinai marched and rallied last month to fight back against cuts to federal research funding.
TL;DR: Join us at Kill the Cuts, a National Day of Action on April 8th to fight for the restoration of critical federal funding for research, healthcare, and education—all of which have been decimated by the Trump administration. Click here to RSVP for the action in NYC at 5pm.
With congressional 2026 budget hearings approaching in April, we are facing massive potential funding cuts, including reductions to NIH and other federal research agencies fundings that support our research at Mount Sinai. In response, a coalition of higher education workers and labor unions are uniting for Kill the Cuts—marching to raise awareness and pressure elected officials to push back against Trump’s attacks on research, healthcare, and higher education.
President Trump has issued Executive Orders attacking the NIH, NSF, and even moved to dismantle the Department of Education. These attacks jeopardize medical research and stall discoveries in vital research areas, while threatening researchers’ jobs across the country. Delaying treatment and cures for diseases creates a drag on the American economy and is projected to cost the public billions of dollars.
Kill the Cuts will unfold at many locations across the country (full list at www.killthecuts.org). This event is organized in collaboration with UAW, Labor for Higher Education, and a national coalition of unions and progressive community organizations. Thousands have already pledged to attend in response to these reckless cuts to federal research funding, life-saving medical research, and education.
As our lives and future careers become increasingly unpredictable, it is more important than ever that we gain the security of a union contract. While Sinai continues to oppose our right to form our union, we are not stopping. By joining with fellow academic workers across the country we can show that our voices matter as we build power and fight for funding that saves lives. Join us in standing up for research, healthcare, and education by taking action on April 8.
